We can do better than ecologically dead lawns, endless mulch, and non-native ornamentals (sorry hostas)….

At Twin Oak Forest Farm, we believe in a future where humans are reintegrated into their local ecosystems. Where people know what plants grow around them, perennial food plants are abundant, and our yards sing with pollinators and birds.
We aim to provide our community with the plants, designs, and skills to make this vision a reality.
Landscape Design
We love working with people to realize their visions and goals. We offer consultations and landscape design services that bring Maine’s amazing plant diversity to your door by replicating local habitats.
Education
We teach workshops on pruning, grafting, plant ID, foraging, and permaculture topics among others. Our goal is to share land stewardship skills with as many people as possible in an accessible way.
We grow fruit and nut trees & native and medicinal plants to help transform your home into an abundant, verdant oasis. We focus on perennials that provide food and habitat for humans, pollinators, and wildlife as we believe “all flourishing is mutual” (Robin Wall Kimmerer).

These are a fast-growing hybrid of American persimmon and Asian persimmon developed by Clifford England of England’s nursery and orchard. A 1-year old seedling will be between 8” and 16” tall.
Trees will produce fruit in 4-6 years. Persimmon fruit is extremely astringent if unripe, fruit should be left on the trees until it is soft to the touch, often into November and December.
All of our persimmon seedlings are 1 year old and have overwintered outside in USDA zone 6A on the coast of Maine.
Similar to a walnut, the heartnut (Juglans ailantifolia) is fast growing nut tree that will produce a crop of delicious nuts in 3-5 years. Heartnuts are more easily cracked than walnuts and often produce large nut meats.
Our seedling trees are 1 year old and have overwintered outside on the coast of Maine, USDA zone 6A. These are seedlings of selected trees from England’s Orchard of McKee, Kentucky.

Spotted Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium maculatum) is a stunning native perennial with large clusters of pink blooms. It grows quite tall and is beloved by butterflies and other pollinators. Plants are grown from local ecotype seeds from Lincoln County.

Soil Pref: Consistently moist to wet rich soils; will tolerate average garden soils
Native Range: Maine and Northeast North America
Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) is a native herbaceous plant known for its’s anise scent and flavor, used in teas and extracts. Anise Hyssop is a deer deterrent, pollinator magnet.

The American Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) is known widely for it’s antioxidant rich berries, tolerance of wet soils and beautiful white mid-summer blooms. These are rooted cuttings of native, unnamed plants from around Midcoast Maine.

Soil Pref: Medium to wet, moisture-retentive loam or heavy clay

Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) has unique perfoliate leaves joined around the stem. White flowers in the mid to late summer. Historical fever-breaking medicinal herb.
